Our Company

   PagingDrCoach (PDC) provides confidential physician executive coaching and CMO coaching for CMOs, Heads of Medical Affairs, and senior medical leaders working in high-stakes, cross-functional environments. Founded in 2020 by Mark Monane, MD, MBA (former CMO and former biotechnology equity research Managing Director), PDC combines clinical credibility with commercial fluency to help leaders drive clarity, decision cadence, and execution.

Meet Our Coach - Dr Mark Monane

PagingDrCoach was built for a specific kind of leader: the CMO or senior physician executive who has to translate science into decisions—and decisions into execution—inside complex commercial organizations.

Mark Monane is the rare coach who has lived the work from multiple sides of the table.


Why Mark’s background matters for your role


CMOs and Medical Affairs leaders don’t struggle because they “don’t know the medicine.” They struggle because the job is a constant mix of high-stakes communication, cross-functional influence without direct authority, competing incentives, and time pressure.


Mark’s career maps directly to those realities:

  • He has held the CMO seat. As Chief Medical Officer at CardioDx (2011–2018), Mark led Clinical/Medical Affairs and served as a clinical consultant to the company’s CLIA laboratory—experience that translates into practical coaching on executive presence, decision cadence, medical governance, and stakeholder alignment.
     
  • He understands how business decisions get made. Before CardioDx, Mark spent 11 years as a Managing Director in equity research at Needham & Company, covering emerging biotechnology in oncology and cardiovascular disease. He knows how leadership teams are evaluated, how narratives land with investors, and what “decision-grade” actually means in board-level and partner-facing rooms.
     
  • He speaks payer and policy fluently. Earlier, as Senior Director of Medical Policy and Practices at Medco Health (a pharmacy benefit manager), Mark helped shape programs and strategies for older adults—experience that informs how evidence, value, and adoption are assessed in real-world systems.
     
  • He is academically grounded in outcomes and practicality. Mark trained at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health, completing fellowship work in geriatrics, clinical pharmacology, and clinical effectiveness. His research focus included optimizing medication use in older adults with cardiovascular and other chronic conditions—an evidence-first lens that carries into how he coaches leaders to communicate clearly under uncertainty.
     
  • He is a credentialed executive coach with a well-being lens. Mark is a Certified Executive Coach and a Certified Healthcare Leadership Coach through the Center for Executive Coaching. He is an Associate Certified Coach of the International Coaching Federation He has coached medical executives since 2020, with added focus on physician burnout prevention and physician well-being—not as “soft” topics, but as leadership performance levers.
     

Current work


Mark is Principal and Chief Medical Officer of Monane Group Clinical Consulting LLC (2018–present) and leads PagingDrCoach (2020–present), coaching CMOs and physician executives in biotech, biopharma, diagnostics, and digital health on:


  • Executive communication (clear asks, decision-ready messaging, stakeholder translation)
     
  • Leadership operating systems (prioritization, cadence, execution)
     
  • Organizational awareness (influence mapping, alignment, conflict navigation)
     
  • Sustainable performance (burnout prevention, boundaries, resilience without rhetoric)
     

Education and professional credentials


Mark holds an AB and an MBA from Columbia University, an MSHPM (Health Policy and Management) from Harvard University, and an MD from New York University. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), and a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA). He has served as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Rutgers’ Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and as a board member of the American College of Medical Quality.
